Parshat Pinchas – (Numbers 27:1-11) instructs Moses to record a census of all men over the age of 20 in order to divide the land among the Israelites. One man, Tzelafchad had recently died so his daughters Mahlah, No’ah, Chaglah, Milkah and Tirtzah approach the tent of meeting with an unusual request, divide their father’s portion of the land as an inheritance between the five daughters because Tzelafchad had no sons. Rashi teaches us that the daughters request was received by Hashem and granted because the daughters were worthy as they and their ancestors back to Joseph were righteous, the sisters were pious and humble and had asked for possession of the land out of the love of the land and not out of greed
