The Third Plage: The Plague of Lice (Hod/Submission – Unhealthy Submission)

mixed media on fabric, 8 ¾ ” x 7”

Egypt expected all of its people to be submissive, but Egyptian submission is a type of humiliation that crushed ones spirit and dulls ones vitality and energy. Its effect was that one thought of himself “worthless, like the dust”, and so from the dust the Plague of Lice was brought to pass. In a nod to my Ashkenazi/Hispanic heritage, the background was printed from a Lino cut using a Mexican style motif. The lice in the center are also a Lino cut and embellished with both hand and machine embroidery.
