Description

My “real” job is in health care, and this is meant to evoke a scene from during the pandemic, when everything felt “vomit” green, off-center, sickly, and isolated. I show the air filtration systems and and empty hospital bed. This was made around the holidays, so there was a Christmas tree at the end of the hall. I tried to imagine a wondrous world, just outside the window, and thus painted “Layla” (or “Lailah” לַיְלָה), who is an angel of the night, according to Jewish myth, and who is associated with fertility and conception. She is holding a Chanukah menorah, also known as a “Chanukiah. ” I used Prismacolor Premiere and Faber Castell Polychromos Colored Pencils, as well as some Holbein oil paint to make the original.
